This is the 3rd indoor grow. Although the first two were somewhat successful, they were more of a learning stage. Now much more dedicated with this grow. Started out with ten seeds from which 7 germinated. Until HPS gets here (ordered a 400W kit from HTG Supply today) currently using a 100W MH and 100W CFL natural light spectrum. The MH was introduced only two days ago, but the plants love it. Also started some nutes, a 5-1-4. Grow room is an old hutch for now, painted flat white, with with an 8" intake fan, and PC fan on the exhaust side.
Started the plants in a big cardboard box lined with foil, with a 50W HPS, 100W CFL, and another CFL 23W. Dont have pics right this sec but they started off strong. They are not too tall, but thick which says they are getting a decent amount light up to this point. past grows have had taller, stringier plants, that stretched for light that just wasnt there (maybe 4 pairs of nodes on a 3-1/2' plant).
They are 4 weeks old, plan to switch to 12/12 as soon as they get my new light.
Some questions:
For nutes, got Sugar Peak veg 5-1-4 or something like that.
Also should they veg a little longer, till they are maybe a 1-1/2' tall (currently about 6-7 inches). Dont want them to be too tall, so if they flower in a week or so maybe they would still get 2-3' or so with a 400W HPS and 8 or so weeks of flowering. There are 7 now but they dont know how many will be female.
Do you have to wait for them to pre-flower to sex them? They have had males and females in the past, but never had lights on a timer, so like I was saying this is the most dedicated grow so far so would like it to be worthwhile this time around. First off ,i would like to welcome you to P.S.Lot of good people here. Sound like your plants are doing good. And to answer your questions: Yes you want to increase your PK but you want to lower your N some people flush the veg nutes out of the soil prior to flipping the plants to flower. I never have. I assume your using soil? And a good rule of thumb , your plant will triple in size thru flower. So keep that in mind. And with sexing well I just keep checking for a hair or balls to show up. When you flip them it take usually a week to 10 days to show sex. Hope that helps Grow safe TS

These are 4 weeks old. Not bad for underpowered lights. Some did very well to start, some a little slower. I made the mistake of cutting half of the biggest fans when I never should have. I topped (edit 3-3-10, fimmed) one out of experimentation, which was the biggest one. It is now almost the smallest. Wont be doing that again.(edit maybe I will) I guess I misunderstood the whole cutting fan leaves or half to prevent shock. I should have waited a while and just let them do what they wanted. Still learning.....

welcome to ps mr nice guy,firstly imo the most important part of the plant,at this early stage is there fan leaves, like solar panels they use the light that your plants need to to grow this is called photosynthesis .only remove or cut fan leaves if badly damaged.
in the later stages of flower u might need to trim a few off as they might be blocking the lights from getting to your buds,but never to many. happy growing GM

Thanks for the tips gm, and well put too. Here are some updated pics. The new box is built, painted white and awaiting the new HPS and a few intake/exhaust holes. Here is a preview of the box too. Should be up and running in a week. I am thinking about flipping to 12/12. The box is 4x4x6 so I figure there is only 3 1/2 or so of growing space when you factor in the light and safe distance from the plants, and the height of the 5 gal buckets they will be in. I dont want them too tall. They have already doubled in size since the last pics, except for the midget. So far everything is coming together nicely. Got some 5 gal buckets, with a mix of compost, perlite, vermiculite, and worm castings.

few more. This is week 5 btw. second pic is the one I topped at like 2 1/2 weeks old. It would have been the biggest one, but is still in the competition.

It's a beautiful thing to see those bud sites starting to form. Before long, they'll be nice and fat too!!

How long did you wait til U flipped?; does anyone know how long U should wait after a plant was topped before flipping?
