Post need help on breeding autoflowering
I plan on growing out auto ak47 and breeding it with another strain. Should this strain I breed it with be autoflowering too? I would like to keep the growing period under 10-11 weeks from seed. Dont want to get rid of the autoflowering gene. Never bred cannabis before so I'm not sure what I'm going to get myself into.

eg.

auto ak47 x (high yielding indica of some sort)...was looking to mix critical mass or sensi star...something nice with good potency, high yield and short flowering time. but i'm not sure what will happen, will i end up having to cross back to the auto 47 again or low ryder? keeping the ruddy in the strain is key, same with it being stabilized. don't want a bunch of fucked up things growing lol...

if you have any recommendations on what strains are good to mix LR with that will increase the yield and result in decent potency then speak your mind. those plants usually yield 1 oz give or take, looking for something that will produce 2-3 oz outdoors in a 2 gal container (no more than 12 weeks from seed)!!!!

breeders, help me out...what is involved in this process. I'm looking to get some project going on that will be completed by winter. starting indoors shortly.

cool thanks, what rudy has the best yield/potency ratio? I know rudies have an alright yield but the potency sucks, im sure there is some that have an alright potency with ok nugs.

i just grew an autoflower amnesia haze, its a 10 week strain with decent yields, but a very potent/tastey smoke. BOfin has a thread dedicated to autoflower smoke/grow reports. if yer interested in autos i'd recommend checking it out - heres the link, auto-flowering-strains-my-view-t32365.html

Hi Bob

I am no expert on breeding, never made a real good attempt at it, produced seeds but I really dont have the space/time to do a good job. Breeding and stablisation is a time consuming process, and most time I have spare is spent making sure I don't have to smoke any "street weed". As soon as I get some "decent" seeds from my growing they will go straight to SS for freebes (you gotta give something back you know).

That said I do have some comments on the subject, as Sarge pointed out I have a thread elsewhere which is intended to act as an auto resource. My main concern at the moment is there is a bit of a thing going on with Lowlife seeds (and thier supporters) and the Joint Doctor seeds (and thier supporters), which means that strains are being released before they are stable. Its the easiest thing to start a flame war on the subject, just mention it, but that is my and others experiences. This means that some of the latest strains are not the best starting point.

That said there ARE great auto strains out there, including Dutch Breed (heard good things about them but not yet grown them) as well. The most stable auto breeding strains are LR, LR2, and LL AK and these are a great starting point, but remeber its a long term project. I have heard that LL will have a white widow cross out soon and by all accounts its good stuff.

If you want a good smoke, and a decent yield I would suggest mastering growing one of the stable strains first, it takes some grows to understand the plants, but my LR2s are now mostly all over the 1 oz yield, some upto 2 oz. The LR2 x AK can yield large, my best is over 4 oz from my last AK grow. I have also grown outdoors, but for some reason  all my outdoor plants get pollenated, there are males nearby !! My fav smoking auto is the JD NYCD which is awesome, but still not the most stable of strains and its only the 1 pheno that seems to be a killer. The second fav smoke, and definatly the most reliable, is LR2. There is talk that its a shit smoke, not true, give the plant what it wants and you get a dank result, indica stone spicey smoke.

If I can be of any help let me know, I have a thread in grow room set up which shows how I grow, everythings there.

im looking to produce like a few thousand seeds or so...that is if they're regular ones...

I personally would like to get a large number of fem ones...need some back up on this method of Soma's I read.

Soma states that in order to safely produce fem seeds you let the plant flower for an extra 2 weeks. This will cause stress and in return produce male flowers. You take the pollen from those and then fertilize another female plant. this will produce fem seeds apparently....

need some support with this, will this work with auto ak47?? or some LR2 hybrids? also, how much fem seed can be produced per plant on average??...

There are numerous ways to fem a plant:

stick a bag over a branch for a day..maybe 2 and it should change sexes and produce fem beans

soma's method..

let it run long past harvest time (not confirmed for Autos)

Peace,
Bill

send me a PM as I'm not able to send you one.
